I've been listening to a compilation of Factory Records stuff recently "Communications 1978-92", and whilst it doesn't all still stand up as particularly good, what's great about it is the energy and the invention in much of the music. How fantastic for those bands that they were given the opportunity to express themselves and have a label support them. Tony Wilson's belief in giving stuff a go, regardless of the commercial viability, is to be applauded and the music biz could do with somebody of his ilk at the moment. Somebody who loves music, is willing to experiment and doesn't mind going bankrupt in the process.
