Words nearly fail me today with the BBC’s announcement I’m so angry, but I still have a few left. No jokes this time you may be pleased to hear, just plain Mr Cross of Clapham.
Why are the BBC appeasing politicians and commercial media and not looking after our interests? Do they think the Murdoch’s and Mail will stop? This will only encourage them and politicians to go further in undermining the BBC.
There really are people out there who want to see the BBC dismantled. Don’t believe for a second that a Cameron government with the likes of the slimeball George Osborne, who believes the market can do everything, will look after the BBC. And don’t believe a Labour government who says it believes in a strong BBC after the way they sought to finish it off after the death of David Kelly.
The BBC is so important to the UK. We are all affected by its output, whether directly by the programmes and services we consume, or indirectly through its standards which permeate all areas of programming and creativity.
Don’t let politicians, who have a crazy desire for control, dismantle what they don’t like – or don’t even watch. Don’t let Rupert Murdoch and his slimy son James attack the BBC by lying about its impact on journalism and creativity. Can you imagine a UK without the BBC, in which the Murdochs have the lion's share of news and programming? I can’t yet, but I think it could be more hollow, vacuous, money-grabbing and insipid than I fear.
